1-5 people will suffer from mental health issues at some stage in their life – healthdirect.gov.au
Newcastle has a population of 322,278.
By these numbers 64,455 people will be currently suffering from mental health issues in Newcastle alone.
With daunting figures like this certain individuals have taken on the role of being a constant, hands on support system for men and women who are in need.
Ben Burgess from Real365 has been making a lot of noise to raise awareness and we had to know more.
The Wellbeing Collective.
Often I get asked “ what is the real365 “ and to me it is pretty straight forward. I am simply mentoring men and women‘s mental health through social awareness, facts, and 22 years of managing my own mental illness and poor mental health. I have found some simple yet super effective practices to maintain a healthy lifestyle that truly will benefit anyone wishing to better their mindset and general well-being and live a fulfilling life.
Recently with the launch of our instagram page @real365 we have promoted a motto “REAL TALK”
Aiming to cut through the stigma and open the lines of communication for people by spreading the awareness.
The name Real365 comes from the idea of managing your mental health 365 days a year before mental illness becomes real. We often get mental illness and mental health mixed up and don’t quite understand it. ‘Mental Health’ is often used as a substitute for Mental Illness conditions such as depression, anxiety conditions, schizophrenia, and others.
According to the World Health Organization, however, mental health is a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.
“ MENTAL HEALTH IS ABOUT WELLNESS RATHER THAN ILLNESS’’
The concept of real365 is mentoring an optimum holistic program with a core focus on bettering one’s mental health, general wellbeing and social awareness.
Suicide is the BIGGEST killer of Men and women aged 25-44 in Australia in 2017 some 3,128 people suicided, that’s 9 deaths caused by suicide every 24 hrs.
80,000-90,000 attempted suicide in 2017 that’s a attempt at ending ones life every 6 minutes.
When numbers like this are presented its easy to see just how close we all are to these figures.
My dream is to have an impact on the lives of people who suffer through mental illness by simply bettering their mental health.
Gaining additional knowledge to better my understanding of mental Illness aside from my 22 years of personal experience I have completed training courses at Lifeline Australia including Suicide Assist program, Mental Health First Aid and more recently R U OK? community ambassador training. This is just the beginning of the training, Im aiming to begin to mentor individuals through a holistic approach to well-being in the near future.
Stay tuned @real365collective for some exciting things to come.
